MY IGINLA PC

I'm not really sure when I bought my first Jarome Iginla card, but I now have over 4200 of them. I collect him not only because of the hockey career that he has created, but also because of the person that he is. Mention the name Iginla and what comes to mind? For me it's words like intensity, skill, leadership, toughness, heart, humility, competitiveness, and consistency (11 consecutive seasons of 30 or more goals). In one of the videos when he was being interviewed he says, "I have to pray, believe, and do the work." Such a great role model, and a fantastic ambassador for the game of hockey.
My goal is not to list his many achievements, but to display the cards created during his illustrious career. My Book Creator pages will showcase some of the subsets that I have put together over the years. The "rookie/career" card on this page was put together using Book Creator. Jarome Iginla officially retired in Calgary on July 30th, 2018. The Calgary Flames retired his jersey number (#12) on March 2, 2019. Jarome Iginla was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on November 15, 2020 and on July 20, 2024 he was inducted into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame. You can access the video section by looking under the MORE heading at the top right of the page. Here you will find many highlight moments from his career as well as interviews with Jarome. I would be remiss not to mention the help provided by countless friends who have sold or traded cards to me. I bought several shields from the local collecting community, and HI has provided me with cards & friends from all over the world. So a huge shout out to everyone that has helped me in accumulating these cards. Using eBay alone would have left out so many awesome cards. You can also find me on Hobby Insider (HI as Uhtred the Viking) and SportsCardForum (SCF as Uhtred.the.viking) where I share my cards and Book Creator projects. On Instagram I am mr._gsch, and these days that is where I spend most of my time. In 2022 for the first time more cards in my Top 10 acquisitions came from Instagram than any other source. This will be a long term project, and changes will be ongoing. My goal is to one day have my entire collection shown on these pages. |

My new avatar, a graphite drawing by my friend Jayden. He allowed me a lot of input for this project, showing a veteran war leader to reflect my hobby user name of Uhtred the Viking. It is 8x10" and while I am already using it on several sites it will also be framed and put up on the wall of my den.

This print was created by my buddy and fellow Iginla collector Jayden, hen44jay on HI and opengraveart on IG. Jayden and I are both Iginla collectors, and over the years we have become good friends. I think we've worked things out to our mutual benefit, we've managed to be cooperative and respectful of each other's specific interests, and it's always fun to trade cards. I'd seen some of Jayden's very impressive artwork before, so when Iggy retired and I was thinking about how to celebrate his career, a large sketch came to mind. Jayden and I have talked about this for a couple of years now, and I have pages of notes to prove it. lol I asked him to create a piece of art based on the idea of sketchnoting. My plan grew from a video I saw about 8 years ago (ca. 2012) while sitting in a staff meeting at my school. Sir Ken Robinson presented a talk called "RSA ANIMATE: Changing Education Paradigms", and it was like nothing I had ever seen before. I loved the way the sketches reflected the information presented during his talk. I've placed the YouTube video below.

Jayden and I quickly realized that we had to manage the scope of what we wanted to present, there was so much information that we wanted to include. So we started cutting out things until we had a manageable amount of information for the page. We looked at several different models until we came up with one that worked for us. This sketch is not meant to show a linear path (ie. with a predetermined starting and ending point), as I wanted everyone to experience it in their own unique way. We also decided to avoid using colour, I think that really ties the whole piece together and doesn't emphasize one area over another.
I am very, very happy with the finished result! Thanks Jayden, for all the time and effort you put into this.
